If that's the price to be paid for speeding up the game and losing some of the MOBA team building aspect then that's fine with me! IMO it was done for the best, the game has never been more fun than in its current format. You are correct though, Blizzard definitely made their choice to alienate a portion of their old playerbase. This doesn't align perfectly ofc, but the way that supporting is done in OW2 really isn't too much different from supporting in Plat/Diamond+ in OW1, with the main differences being that the support passive gives a ton of self sufficiency and abilities (things like Ana's nade) are way more consistent with so much less projectile mitigation. As a support main I really see it among supports who were gold and under that played a very passive style, same with low level tanks. I do think the general split is between low metal rank old guard and everyone else. I've played Overwatch since the very first first closed betas in 2015. No 'on fire' visuals, but the voicelines are still thereīut on the bright side, you can ping enemies with G now Mei can't freeze people outside of her ult anymore Soujourn is literally just a better version of solider But you can't endorse the enemy team anymore either No end cards, so 'endorsing' people is now the only way to commend someone beyond just verbally saying something. No more free lootboxes, which means paying money is the only way to get anything good If your one tank isn't at least semi-descent, you're screwed So if you got a mercy flying around and your team can't aim well enough to kill her, that tank might just never die. The tank's damage nerf (and reducing it to one single tank) means that there's just a much lower team damage output possible overall. If there's a single-target healer pocketing the tank, chances are they WILL NOT DIE unless you kill the healer first. And you kind of have to play that way because protecting people is so hard, so it's better to just get rid of the danger by killing the enemy The result is that tanks no longer feel like tanks because they're so bad at protecting the team on their own. Roadhog can't one-shot most people with his hook combo anymore and charging people with reinhardt is way less powerful, especially against other tanks. So winston, roadhog, and zarya feel radically differentĪt the same time, tank health might be bigger but damage has been nerfed. There is no longer a secondary tank to pick up any slack. Tanking as a whole is just a weird experience because you, as a solo tank, have to choose between protecting your team or going on the offensive.
